This deep bowl was hollowed from a piece of driftwood which was washed up on the beach
It had probably drifted out to sea and been attacked by the Teredo Worm, which used to be the scourge of wooden hulled ships
The wood is quite soft, so it is supported both by a chuck and a tailstock while the outside is being turned
The wormholes are very large, it is easy to push a pencil right through
There is not much possibility of getting a polished finish on this wood
And because it is so soft, the bottom of the vessel poses a special problem
