The catcher plate is made circular and a shallow spigot is cut – keep clear of the screws!
The assembly is turned around and the spigot in the catcher plate is used to hold the work, the other face of the ring is then trued up
The depth of the ring is checked before the break through is attempted. Some sanding and finishing is done
The ring edge is protected by tape and four long screws are screwed into the catcher disc
The ring is broken through – ideally the cuts from both sides should meet exactly. Some hand sanding is necessary to finish it
The disc blank is treated similarly, but there is only space for a small recess, not a spigot.
