The stand for the Maglite torch is made from a small yew blank. It is made like a bowl with a very small "dish"
The blank is held by the tailstock against the jaws of the chuck, to give a friction drive
A temporary spigot is cut in what will become the "top" side. Unlike the spigot for a bowl, this one is as big as possible.
The blank is reversed and turned to the shape of a true cylinder
A small holding recess is cut in the side which will become the "bottom"
The lower part of the Maglite stand is shaped, sanded and polished
