Pentacubes

Project List Next Page

This one is not woodturning at all.

It is made entirely with the bandsaw and the big sanding disc

But these are such an integral part of the woodturning workshop that this project just slipped in!

"Pentominoes" are made up of five squares fixed together (think of a "domino" as two squares stuck together - continue with "triomino", "tetromino" etc)

There are twelve different ways to make pentominoes, and if, instead of flat squares, we use cubes, we get twelve different "pentacubes"

There are thousands of different ways of fitting the twelve pentominoes into a rectangle, and there are also many ways to fit the pentacubes into a 3x4x5 "brick"

In this project the pentacubes are quite big - the cubes are 68mm (2.7 inches) on a side.
